A Lovely Day At Moniker General

We have the sweet opportunity to work with awesome couples and getting to see their special day come to fruition is something we really love! Getting to be with a bride as she pieces together her special day is something that doesn’t grow old. Our spaces are able to offer such versatile style + aesthetics with each event. This was one of our favorite weddings. It was a really sweet day at Moniker General.

We did an interview with the bride to get her perspective on the day. We thought it would be a fun idea to get the perspective from the bride! This wedding was a special one for us. It was hosted in the grass at Moniker General and the reception was on our beloved patio. We caught up with the bride, Deia, and got some insight on her experience.

Enjoy our convo…

What was your favorite part of the day?

Hard to say... We enjoyed every minute of it! But I think the time after dinner, seeing everyone so relaxed, having a good time, it was the perfect picture of the word ‘celebration’.

Dress designer?

Galia Lahav

I absolutely love the architecture style of Liberty Station, and the intimate, cool and chill vibe of the patio, but that beautiful long wooden table was just too perfect!
— Bride, Deia

How did you meet your (now) spouse?

I love our story! Chris works at Skydive San Diego. I learned to skydive there back in 2017, got my skydiver’s license, and was there at least once a month to jump. I would see Chris there but we never talked because we are both shy...but about a year into it, he learned that I thought he was cute (my cousin, who also works there and was our wedding 'unofficial officiant', heard from his wife and told to a friend who told Chris), and eventually he joined me on a fun jump...we started talking, he went to spend a day with me in LA (where I lived at the time), and then, a couple months later,I had an accident. He went to see me every single day while I recovered until I moved back to Brazil, my home country. But we never stopped talking and we didn't want to be away from each other. We defied the odds and overcame a lot of obstacles, I came to visit him several times, he went to Brazil seven times over 3 years, COVID happened, a long loooong fiance visa process happened...but here we are!

Tell us an interesting fact about your wedding that was special to you.

The team we put together - our photographer Teresa, day of coordinator Jyothi, the guys from Donna Jean, and Haley - they all seemed like long time friends, of us and of each other.... Everyone was in tune and it made me feel like they were part of the celebration just as much as our guests. It was very special!

Why did you choose our venue?

The big table. That was it! I absolutely love the architecture style of Liberty Station, and the intimate, cool and chill vibe of the patio, but that beautiful long wooden table was just too perfect!

How was your experience working with Moniker Events?

It was all so easy and stress free. First of all, Haley is THE coolest girl ever and I wanted to be her friend from the first meeting. And then, she was very helpful, flexible, and accommodated all our requests (including our request to use the outside space of Moniker General for our ceremony, that worked out perfectly).

What do you think your guests will be talking about for years to come? (i.e. the signature cocktails, the hanging installations, the rad DJ, location, etc)

On the days following the wedding, we got so many comments on how full of love the day was. And everyone loved the family style dinner we had, all seated together on the same table enjoying good food, drinks, talks and laughter. So I think that very table that draw us to Moniker, was the center of all the good memories we’ll all have of that special day for years to come.

Did you take a honeymoon and where did you go?

We went to upstate NY, along the Hudson river to unwind and relax, and then to NYC, a trip we had been talking about for a few years.

We had an awesome time chatting with this lovely human! Some aspects we loved about this wedding was how simple yet timeless it was. The details of her day were so lovely, one of those being her wedding dress! This was the first wedding where we had the ceremony + reception at Moniker General. A treat for all of us to see Deia’s vision come together!
